Slide of Todorov
http://www.slideshare.net/scannella1/todorovs-theory
This slide explains Todorovs Narrative Theory and how people need the narrative to make sense of things.
The way i can interpret this into my theme of 'happy ever afters' is that people expect to see the happy ever afters in films as they all want it themselves so when they see it there, they can then relate to it. From this the people then make interpretations of how relationships should be in reality but when films like Blue Valentine go against it, this could then leave to the success of the film, whether it was popular or not.

Blue Valentine Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Valentine_(film)
This shows the reviews and success of Blue Valentine.
When looking at the last section of it, it exclaims that the content could affect the success in America's box office.
The comparison is that Blue Valentine contains sexual scenes whereas a film such as Love Actually had major success without any of this. This could support that the less crude the film is the more success.

He's Just Not That Into You
talking about the success of relationships but sometimes how it is not always a happy ending and discovering the truth about certain relationships.
The explanation of things not working out in marriages as affairs occur and also they fall out of love so this goes against the representations of relationships have happy ever afters.
Showing how even being in a relationship for a long period of time (several years) doesn't mean you have to get married, although the woman in this says "its going against tradition\nature". Believing that marriage is the follow up from the relationship. (man not wanting marriage, not believing in it)
Girl wanting to date men and then becoming obsessive, calling his number and waiting by the phone.
The Notebook
This supports the ideology in some way of the 'happily ever after'.
Showing that there is hope in love as the two people carry out their summer romance together and then after being split for several years they then re-unite and have a happy ever after and end up dying together on the same bed which can then connect with the audience as it makes it emotional.
