This slide explains Todorovs Narrative Theory and how people need the narrative to make sense of things.
The way i can interpret this into my theme of 'happy ever afters' is that people expect to see the happy ever afters in films as they all want it themselves so when they see it there, they can then relate to it. From this the people then make interpretations of how relationships should be in reality but when films like Blue Valentine go against it, this could then leave to the success of the film, whether it was popular or not.
